Conan O’Brien to Play Himself in Lisa Kudrow’s ‘Web Therapy’ (Exclusive Video)

Talk show host Conan O’Brien becomes the first celebrity to play himself on the improvisational comedy series Web Therapy, which stars Lisa Kudrow, when he seeks help from therapist Fiona Wallace in the first of a three-episode arc premiering Dec. 14 on LStudio.com.

The fourth season of Web Therapy kicked off last week with a story that stars Rosie O’Donnell as an editor at a book publisher handling Fiona’s tell-all memoir. In that episode, Minnie Driver plays a B-movie actress who acquires rights to the book for a TV movie. [Watch the episode below.]

The fourth season of Web Therapy is the longest yet, with 16 episodes in total. Last season there were 15 episodes.

Other stars who will appear in the new season include Lily Tomlin (as the therapist’s mother), Natasha Bedingfield and Dan Bucatinsky, an actor who is also Kudrow’s producing partner. Kudrow and Bucatinsky created the series along with writer-director Don Roos for Is or Isn’t Entertainment.

Kudrow won a 2011 Webby award for best individual performance, and the show won best comedy longform series.

The first season of 10 episodes aired on Showtime from July through October, marking a rare case where a series that went from the web to TV. On Showtime, it attracted an average of 359,000 viewers (from multiple runs) each week.

Showtime is in negotiations to air more episodes of Web Therapy, but no deal is yet in place.

In the fourth season, Fiona is building her online business and trying not to be distracted by her husband’s political campaign. O’Donnell appears in the first four episodes in regards to her book, which is ghostwritten by her assistant (played by Bucatinsky).

In his three episodes, O’Brien seeks help with his “anger issues,” according to the producers.

There have been stars on Web Therapy before, but they always played characters. O’Brien is the first to be himself.

Margaret Cho’s ‘Baby I’m With the Band’ video — spot cameos from Conan O’Brien, Weezer, Wayne Coyne and more

Baby, what band is she not with?

The video for talking comedian turned sometimes-singing comedian Margaret Cho’s latest single from Cho Dependent – her first official foray into music, with assistance from Fiona Apple, Andrew Bird, and Tegan & Sarah — is essentially a backstage pass to last year’s Bonnaroo.

Watch as Cho cuddles with Conan and Wayne Coyne, gets down with Gwar, fans out on Weezer, does ugly yoga with featured guest Brendan Benson, disappears into a dressing room with OK Go, steals Andy Richter’s hat, and sits on Christmas Tree Mom‘s face:

Kristen Stewart Enjoys England, Conan O’Brien’s Beard

Team Edward? Team Jacob? PFFFFT. With “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ finally out in theaters, that debate is officially done (seriously, you guys; they’re married, and fun as it’s been, we must move on.) But if you’re wondering where Kristen Stewart’s loyalties lie…well, sorry Edward, but she’s clearly TEAM COCO. And after KStew made an appearance on “Conan” last night, we’re thinking her allegiance might actually be more dangerous than any vampire romance; one compliment from her, and Conan went positively feral!

But before that happened, Kristen spent some time talking about her current, country-hopping lifestyle, and the difference in celebrity treatment across the pond.

“It kind of varies,” she explained. “In New York they’re like, ‘Don’t flatter yourself honey, I was not looking at you.’ It’s a distinct look….but in London, people are sort of overly polite, and sort of just want to be nice.”

But even though Kristen always seems sort of unsettled by her fame, she admitted that she’s pretty comfortable out in public. Conan’s question: Does she wear a disguise to avoid being recognized?

“Well, this isn’t real” Kristen joked, pointing to her face. But in reality, she said, “I get by very easily. It’s weird. I think Rob kind of gets [more attention]—he’s very approachable, not to say that I’m not. But I think it’s easier for people to talk to guys.”

(Translation: “Twilight”-loving females aren’t embarrassed to launch themselves at Robert Pattinson’s face if they happen to see him out in public. And who can blame them?!)

Of course, Kristen has also been in England for months now, where she’s perhaps just a bit less-recognizable to the average passerby than she would be in the US. And when asked how she’s handling the cultural difference, she answered, “It’s weird, you get asked that by English people all the time. But it’s not that strange.”

In fact, she’s assimilated into the culture across the pond so well that she was even able to school Conan on proper English vocabulary: “A sausage is a banger, just so you know.”

So, to sum up: Kristen is handling her celebrity status very well, English people are extremely polite and a sausage is a banger is a sausage.

Also, complimenting Conan O’Brien on his beard will result in an explosive reaction that cannot be conveyed in word. (Just watch and see.)

Score one for Team CoCo!

Conan O’Brien, who was back in New York City this week to shoot his TBS talk show, certainly ended his stint in the Big Apple on a high note.

Make that an incredibly romantic note.

On Thursday night’s program, O’Brien officiated the wedding of the show’s costume designer Scott Cronick and his partner, David Gorshein.

The same-sex marriage was conducted at New York’s Beacon Theater in front of the couple’s friends, families, loved ones and, of course, all of us watching at home.

And O’Brien made it clear this wasn’t some sort of joke.

“This is for real,” he said. “We are gathered here today in this beautiful place to witness the joining of two lives.”

Cronick, who walked down the aisle accompanied by his favorite celebrity, Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen, joined Gorshein under a chuppah to exchange vows.

“Anyone in the world would be happy to wear one of your designs,” Gorshein told Cronick. “But no one is possibly happier than I am to wear your ring.”

To which Cronick replied: “I vow to fill your every day with so much love. Cameras or no cameras, I am here today and I am yours forever.”

In keeping with Jewish tradition, both men stepped on glasses before O’Brien declared, “By the power vested in me by the state of New York and the Universal Life Church, I now pronounce you husband and husband. You can kiss the groom.”

Scott Cronick: When Conan O’Brien Married Us on Live TV

Weddings are personal, but the issue known as “same-sex marriage” is public. We have Mr. Conan O’Brien and TeamCoco to thank for bringing light to an important historical moment — and to an unfair discrepancy between states.

2011-11-16-20649_20111103_016450245_32095_5128.JPGWhen we got engaged in August, we wanted to celebrate the most fabulous and undiscriminating basis of our lives together: love. But we never imagined the ceremony would take place at the Beacon Theater, be televised on TBS, or be officiated by Mr. Conan O’Brien.

As a gay couple, we live lives that are very much “out” and happily adjusted, evidenced by our family members and friends who joined us onstage during the ceremony. While we never sought permission to express ourselves, since June we have been excited by the recent legal advances in New York and wanted to participate civilly in a meaningful way. We could not deny the importance of visibility right now. We know we are only one couple, of so many more, mobilizing demands for marriage equality and queer rights.

We did not seek a political platform, and yet by painting our celebration as beautifully as they did, TeamCoco gave us the best possible opportunity to showcase that couples are couples. A same-sex couple anywhere should be legally permitted to declare the same commitment to one another as a heterosexual couple.

The show set up the most glorious celebration, while allowing the two of us to feel that the wedding was our own. Despite 3,000 people in the theater, and millions of viewers on TV and online, we were able to have a personal affair. We connected intimately as a public act; our planned-yet-unrehearsed vows underscored this excitement.

2011-11-16-20649_20111103_016450313.JPGThe work of the crew and production staff of Conan overwhelmed us; it was meticulous, above and beyond our only requests: a few words to one another, a symbolic chuppah (wedding canopy), and the breaking of glasses. The artistic response of the show to our wishes was glorious, as we have all seen in the hundreds of real flowers and fabulous tuxedo jackets, and, yes, in the attendance of Ted Turner (Will Forte). The standing ovation from the crowd knocked us over.

“Gay marriage” is a national issue — and Conan offered us international exposure. Conan put on stage in one state a celebration of love outlawed in another state. Celebrating our wedding as not only dignified and legitimate but indeed a monumental occasion, Conan provided a mainstream endorsement, as Andy Cohen points out in his blog. Our wedding in this way participates in larger discussions about both the huge strides made throughout the country and the miles left to go federally.

After the broadcast, we hid out in Battery Park for a weekend honeymoon. We are planning a longer getaway up the coast of California next week. Still, in our state of residence, where we are celebrating, we cannot legally wed and are fighting for recognition of our nuptials in New York. We are fighting for rights and privileges in California afforded to all other married couples, regardless of where they marry in the U.S.

We hope that the fight ends soon, and that we’re on the winning side. We are dressed for it.

TNT is joining the ranks by having its own holiday programming.

Christmas in Washington, the network’s annual holiday concert hosted by TBS personality Conan O’Brien, will feature performances by Justin Bieber, Cee Lo Green, Jennifer Hudson, Victoria Justice and The Band Perry. The show, taking place in Washington D.C., will air on TNT on Friday, Dec. 16 at 8 p.m.

This year’s Christmas in Washington marks its 30th concert, which benefits the Children’s National Medical Center. The concert, taped on Sunday, Dec. 11, will be attended by the president and the First Lady and others.

This marks O’Brien’s first stint hosting the concert. The late-night host leads the 11 p.m. talker Conan on sister network TBS.

Conan O’Brien drew only slightly more viewers for TBS in first year than George Lopez

Coco (AP)

Conan O’Brien–who celebrated the first anniversary of “Conan” earlier this week by officiating a gay marriage on his show–averaged 952,000 total viewers a night during his first year on TBS, according to Nielsen. That’s only 41,000 more than George Lopez did in the same timeslot on “Lopez Tonight,” the show TBS moved to midnight to make room for “Conan.” (In August, TBS canceled “Lopez Tonight.”)

O’Brien had significantly more younger viewers than Lopez, drawing 440,000 18-to-34-year-olds compared to 316,000 for “Lopez Tonight.” Among 18-to-49-year-olds, “Conan” averaged 680,000 versus 558,000 for Lopez.

The averages for “Conan” are down considerably from the show’s premiere, which drew over four million viewers.

But the network (presumably) was able to charge advertisers higher rates for Coco’s show. So do the underwhelming numbers for “Conan” even matter for TBS?
“Whatever ad-rate increase they got from marketers has to be offset by the cash TBS ponied up for O’Brien,” Brad Adgate, senior VP of research at Horizon Media, told Yahoo News.

TBS is paying O’Brien between $ 10 million and $ 15 million a year, according to Business Week.

“The question you have to ask is, ‘What was the more financially prudent: Lopez or O’Brien?’” Adgate said. “I would vote for Lopez–but hindsight is 20/20.”

He added: “You throw in Frank Caliendo of ‘Frank TV’ fame in 2007, and TBS’ attempts to launch a late-night comedy show have had difficulty getting any traction, regardless of the host.”

Conan O’Brien Performs Televised Gay Marriage in New York City

Conan O’Brien was the presiding minister at the wedding of his long-time costume designer Scott Cronick and his partner David Gorshein on Thursday night in New York City. The couple was married on live television on O’Brien’s TBS show, Conan. O’Brien became an ordained minister with the Universal Life Church Monastery earlier in the week, and obtained ministerial documents to legally marry the couple.

New York, New York (PRWEB) November 07, 2011

Conan O’Brien was the presiding minister at the wedding of his long-time costume designer Scott Cronick and his partner David Gorshein on Thursday night in New York City. The couple was married on live television on O’Brien’s TBS show, Conan. O’Brien became an ordained minister with the Universal Life Church Monastery earlier in the week, and obtained ministerial documents to legally marry the couple.

The wedding of Cronick and Gorshein is the first ground-breaking same sex marriage ever broadcast on late night television. As same sex marriage is not legal in Cronick and Gorshein’s home state of California, the couple decided to get married during the week-long taping of Conan in New York City. New York passed the Marriage Equality Act in June of this year, allowing same sex marriage.

The Universal Life Church supports same sex marriage, and believes that officially recognized matrimony should be available to all. The ULC has always offered credentials and documentation to legally ordain people from all walks of life. This allows friends relatives to marry gay couples through its online ordination process so that these loving couples can enjoy the matrimonial benefits so many Americans take for granted.

About the Universal Life Church Monastery

The Universal Life Church Monastery was founded in 1977 and has since ordained millions of people worldwide, allowing them to perform weddings and other religious events. The Universal Life Church Monastery strongly believes in the rights of all people from all faiths to practice their religious beliefs, regardless of what those beliefs are; so long as they do not infringe upon the rights of others and are within the law of the land and one’s conscience.
